It is already evening and Kay Banks, founder of the animal rescue organisation Tabby Cat Rescue, is enjoying a warm shower.
Suddenly, the surveillance camera reports movement at the front door. When Kay opens the front door, she is shocked.
At the top of the pile
At the top of a pile of parcels is a transport box for pets and in this box sits a cat. He is confused, very frightened and screaming incessantly.
Kay doesn’t hesitate for long and brings the cat into the warmth of the house. She opens the zip of the transport box, but the animal is not immediately ready to come out.
That is only too understandable. He is still in shock and is in a completely unfamiliar environment.
Luck in misfortune
Kay Banks sees her shelter as a last resort for cats at high risk of being euthanised.
These are mainly cats with illnesses or disabilities and captured strays.
Tabby Cat Rescue is a „no kill shelter“, i.e. a shelter where animals are not simply killed because they could not be rehomed after a certain period of time.
Unfortunately, this is exactly what many other animal shelters do, but fortunately the no-kill approach is gaining more and more supporters.
So despite the trauma of his experience, the abandoned cat was very lucky that he ended up with Kay.
Already the second case this year
However, the woman understandably feels taken advantage of. No heart, no matter how big, can create the necessary space if it doesn’t actually exist.
The cat is the second velvet paw to be left on Tabby Cat Rescue’s doorstep without comment or permission in the still young year of 2024.
Good chances of placement
Nevertheless, Kay can’t help but take in the abandoned cat, even though her shelter is already full.
The poor chap is still very frightened, but his future prospects are not too bad.
His health is good, he is not a stray and he knows what life in the house is like. This means he has a better chance of being rehomed than many of his peers living in Kay’s care.
