June Mellor and her family are out on the ocean off Hawaii in their boat. Suddenly they notice something black in the water.
At first they think it’s a piece of wood floating on the water, but it soon becomes clear: this something is moving. It is an animal.
Land animal in the water
Curious, the family steers the boat closer to the black animal. Is it perhaps a seal, a sea turtle or a dolphin?

No. This animal looks more like a land animal. Is it a dog? Not even that, because the animal has a pretty recognizable trunk.
The surprise is perfect: it’s a small pig.
Lasso for a little trunk
Pigs are notorious for not drowning in water. The swimming pigs in the Bahamas have even achieved worldwide fame.
But this little grunt here is certainly a full kilometer from the coast.
How it got here will forever remain a mystery, and right now that’s not the most important thing.

What the little trunk needs now is immediate help. June’s husband and son make a lasso out of rope in no time at all.
After a few attempts, they manage to get the piggy on board.
Collapse and rest
The poor animal is completely exhausted and immediately collapses on the boat. No wonder.
Who can say how long the pig had to desperately keep its head above water?
Now it can take a deep breath, recover and have a nap while the humans bring it ashore.
The sweet little pig has now been given a name by the family: Miracle, and the rescue really was a small miracle.
Back to the forest
By the time Miracle reaches the shore, she is feeling much better. Happy to have solid ground under her feet again, she sniffs around.

She soon feels strong enough to return to her beloved forest. I wonder what her pig friends will say about the adventure?
