It’s hard to believe how good-natured some dogs are, even when they have had very bad experiences. Gordough is one such dog.
When he is discovered tied up alone on a park bench in November 2023, he is in a terrible state.
As it soon becomes clear, he has retained his extremely gentle character despite everything.
Amazing trust
When staff from the Austin Humane Society (AHS) rescue the dog from his predicament, he shows all the signs of the worst neglect.
His fur is all crusty and he is suffering from severe inflammation of his skin and eyes.
Obviously, his previous owner didn’t care for the dog in the slightest before heartlessly tying him to the bench and abandoning him.
Distrust of humans would have been all too understandable, but Gordough immediately takes a liking to his rescuers.
In good hands
The massive pit bull mix would probably have frightened many people due to his stature alone, but there is no reason to be.
It’s hard to imagine a friendlier and calmer furry friend than him.
He endures medical baths, ointments and all other treatments that await him at the AHS with the patience of an angel. He’s in good hands here and he knows it.
Favorite of the staff
The jovial big boy is quickly becoming a favorite at AHS.

writes an AHS employee, and a homebody Gordough truly is. Cuddling, snuggling and snoozing: this is how the gentle giant likes his life best.
A new home
Gordough’s story is going viral on social media and many people are holding the kind-hearted furry friend close to their hearts.
Among those people is a family who ends up fostering Gordough. At least that was the original plan.
The family quickly realizes how great a fit the cozy colossus is for them, and a temporary foster home turns into a well-deserved forever home.
Gordough’s health is now fully restored. Now he can lead the well-cared-for life he loves so much.
