Snoopy’s younger days are behind him. He is old, almost deaf and blind, but with a playful and trusting soul.
Julie is Snoopy’s mouthpiece. The graphic designer volunteers at an animal shelter called the Ben Franklin Humane Society and tells us Snoopy’s story.
Not an easy case

The senior dog has been living in a kennel at the shelter in Washington state for around two years.
There is now even an orthopaedic bed there, which a donor provided especially for Snoopy.
Surrounded by blankets and toys, which the four-legged friend loves to nibble on, Snoopy, like the other dogs, is looking forward to his free time outside the kennel with palpable joy.

But Snoopy is not like the other dogs. A year ago, he was diagnosed with Cushing’s disease, which also affects his vision and hearing.

Treatment with various medications is therefore essential and significantly reduces Snoopy’s chances of being adopted.
Warm nature despite illness

However, Snoopy’s almost complete deafness does not seem to have dampened his will to live. With his warm nature, he is winning Julie over more and more.
In fact, he prefers people to dogs! If Julie didn’t already have two dogs, she wouldn’t have batted an eyelid and taken Snoopy home with her.

So the adorable four-legged friend, who would love to just lie in a sunny backyard and enjoy human company, has to continue to wait in the shelter for an empathetic adoptive family.

Hope remains

An elderly dog that constantly needs expensive medication and may only be able to support its eventual owner for a few more months is not an ideal profile at all.
Understandably, many people looking to adopt are reluctant to take on a pet with special needs.
During his entire stay at the shelter, Snoopy only had one meeting with a potential owner. A second one was scheduled, but the person never showed up.
However, it’s not all evening yet. The vets estimate that the dog still has a few golden years ahead of him.

We are keeping our fingers crossed for Snoopy in any case and hope that the right person will open their heart to this great dog!
