A woman loses her job and runs out of money to feed her Great Dane breed. But instead of seeking help, she continues to try to look after the animals on her own.
The result: when animal rescuers try to take care of the animals, they are on the verge of starvation.
But some of them can be rescued and find a new, noble home!
Breeder runs out of money
In Thailand, a woman realized her dream of breeding Great Danes and owned a considerable number of animals, including a mama dog with a fresh litter of puppies.
But one day she lost her job.
Great Danes are one of the largest dog breeds and require corresponding amounts of food. The woman could no longer afford this.
Dogs had to starve
Due to this precarious situation, a relative of the woman finally called the animal rescuers from Watchdog Thailand and Pathum Thani Animal Welfare.
To her horror, the helpers and vets could only discover the death of a mama dog and her puppies.
13 other dogs, five of them aged between five months and two years, were close to starvation.
Emaciated to the ribs and completely exhausted, these animals could barely stand on their feet.
First food and first aid
Attempts were made to offer the animals food on site, but some of them were already too weak to eat on their own.
After first aid measures on site, the animals were taken to the local animal shelter and received the necessary further treatment.
Explanation from the breeder
Thanks to information from the local area, the authorities were able to locate the breeder and owner of the Great Danes and take her in for questioning.
She stated that she had tried to feed the animals, but could hardly afford to buy food because she had lost her job.
Put up for adoption
The animal shelter has used social media to search for animal lovers who can give the rehabilitated Great Danes a suitable home and life.
This news also reached the Thai royal family and the king decided without further ado to adopt all 13 Great Danes.
