As Andy Hassall is working outside, he suddenly hears an unfamiliar noise. The eerie whistling and squeaking is coming from a nearby drainpipe.
He checks and realizes that an animal is in urgent need of help. It is stuck in the pipe and cannot get back up under its own power.
Help comes from above
Andy Hassall sees that a small hedgehog is sitting at the end of the pipe. Because the pipe is so slippery, the little fellow can’t get a grip and can’t climb up.
With a flash of inspiration, Andy Hassall takes a net out of his car and lowers it part way down the pipe.
The distressed hedgehog climbs in and Hassall is able to carefully pull him out of the pipe with the net.
Even after his rescue, the little hedgehog is still terrified

Back on the surface, the hedgehog continues to squeak and call.
The animal is still a baby and is very scared. Fortunately, Andy Hassall knows how to help this time too.
A case for Urchin’s Hedgehog Care
Fiona Quick, the owner of Urchins Hedgehog Care, looks after hedgehogs. She receives a message about the little fellow from the drainpipe and rushes to help.
Pip, as the little hedgehog from the pipe is later christened, immediately relaxes and calms down thanks to her care.

„I didn’t expect him to be so small, but he was fine. No injuries.“
notes Fiona Quick.
Pip is lucky in misfortune: although he is now traveling without his mother, he is developing well.
Typically for hedgehogs, he sleeps during the day and wakes up in the evening to explore his surroundings. When he is old and strong enough, a life in the wild awaits him.
The dangerous open drainpipe is now properly covered with a grid and no longer a danger to other baby hedgehogs.
See for yourself what an unfortunate situation Pip has got himself into!
