Jonathan Evison is hiking through the forest at the foot of the Olympic Mountains in the US state of Washington, as he often does. But today something is different than usual.
Suddenly he hears a pitiful, wailing voice coming from the bushes. What does it mean?
A little ball of fur is all alone

Jonathan looks in the direction from which he hears the crying. He can already see who is crying so terribly – it is a bear cub that is all alone.
The man knows a lot about nature. Thinking that the mother bear must be nearby, he does nothing.

The bear would attack him if he approached her cub. So Jonathan walks on, hoping that mother and cub will quickly find each other again.
The next day, Jonathan follows the same route. He wants to know if the little bear is back with his mother.
Sure enough, the bear cub is no longer where he saw it yesterday. Relieved, Jonathan walks on.
But after a few steps he hears the piteous crying again. This time the little bear is in real distress because it is trapped under a fallen branch.

Now Jonathan no longer hesitates. He knows he has to help. He carefully goes to the poor baby bear and lifts the branch so that the little one is free.
The little bear makes new friends

The bear cub is not at all afraid of Jonathan. On the contrary, it is extremely grateful and trusting.
Jonathan doesn’t have to do anything for the little bear to come with him. All he has to do is walk, because the baby animal follows him of its own accord.
The walk home is a mile long. The bear stays very close to Jonathan the whole time.

The man knows that he cannot raise the bear cub himself. That’s why he seeks help from the West Sound Wildlife Shelter via Facebook.
They tell him to take the bear there. The bear cub naturally follows his rescuer on this journey.
Once he arrives at the sanctuary, the little bear is first given some refreshments and examined. Fortunately, he is healthy.
But his journey is not over yet. He is transferred to the PAWS Animal Welfare Society because there is another bear cub there who is all alone.
As hoped, the two become friends. Together they now grow up happy and well cared for.
