Getting snakes out of houses is part of Bryce Lockett’s everyday job.
After all, he works for Snake Catchers Brisbane & Gold Coast – a rescue organization for snakes in distress.
This time, he received a call from a concerned homeowner in Australia who noticed something strangely scaly in his bathroom.
A scaly tail was hanging out of the ceiling
When Bryce arrived at the scene, he immediately realized that a reptile had taken up residence in the house.
„It was hanging out of a hole in the roof through which the pipes ran,“
bryce tells The Dodo about his mission.
He searched the attic for an intruder that had made itself at home up there – but he found something completely different!
A huge snakeskin, more than a meter long, showed itself before the man’s eyes!
Although Bryce deals with snakes on a daily basis, he was more than impressed by this find.
A real hunk
Bryce tells The Dodo enthusiastically:
„I always think it’s great to find a snake skin completely intact. That doesn’t happen too often with snakes over the 10-foot mark.“
It was clear by now that this was a snake and not another reptile – but the discovery of the snake skin also indicated that it would be a huge specimen of snake!
After searching the attic, Bryce finally found the snake curled up in a cavity in the wall
It was a coastal carpet python, common in the region, and was a staggering size!
One of the biggest snakes he’d ever seen
Although the snake was not quite as long as the skin Bryce had found before, the animal still measured well over a meter!
„In termsof size, it would be one of my top 10 largest snakes ever caught,“ reports Bryce.
But the snake rescuer barely had time to look at the snake any longer – because it was time to take the animal with him.
In the end, he took the huge snake to a suitable place where it could continue to live undisturbed.
„It was released into the wildlife corridor where it will continue to feed and grow,“
tells Bryce.
This story proves that sometimes the most amazing animals can be discovered at home.
