How did this tragic case come about?
The case of Flick the dachshund is particularly extraordinary. Flick was a very happy dog who was loved and spoilt by his family. However, Flick’s curiosity became his undoing.
One evening he escaped from his sheltered home and met his tormentor that fateful night.
A policeman as saviour
A policeman was on his way to the police station in Jefferson County. He heard a pitiful whimpering coming from a ditch.
The policeman discovered a small dog whose legs and tail were tied together with tape. Even its mouth had been taped shut.
The policeman immediately rushed to help the pathetic bundle. He carefully freed the abused animal from its restraints and took the dog to a nearby veterinary clinic.
Flick was almost frozen to death and had to be treated with heat therapy. The doctor treating him discovered a number of horrific injuries.
The poor animal must have been lying there in the ditch for several days. The severe concussion was probably caused by an unbelievable circumstance.
The doctor suspected that Flick had been thrown out of a moving car while tied up. The veterinary clinic nursed the severely injured and traumatised dachshund back to health.
Flick’s rescuer witnessed the horrific act
Flick’s rescuer was so horrified that he had the tape checked for fingerprints. Sure enough, he got a match. Paul Garcia, 39, from Barnhart, USA. He was already known to the police.
Paul Garcia was immediately located and arrested. Now he has been charged with wilfully injuring an animal. Such a despicable act is absolutely incomprehensible and must be punished.
Paul Garcia became aware of the small animal because Flick had hidden under his car. An insane assumption led to this unbelievable act.
He was firmly convinced that the dachshund was carrying a hidden camera. The police were supposed to have attached it to the animal in order to record Paul Garcia’s criminal acts.
A happy ending
Flick’s owner, Kaitlynn Kofron, was found. After using medical records to prove she was his owner, she was allowed to take Flick back home.
In his loving home, the little dachshund was finally able to recover from his terrible experiences. Flick will probably never forget those nights and what happened.
