When a dog is abandoned, it no longer understands the world. He doesn’t know that his family has deliberately left him behind, and the more time passes, the more desperate he becomes.
The fear of being alone somewhere in an unknown place without their loved ones is mixed with the fear that something has happened to their two-legged friends.
Desperation makes us helpless, and helplessness makes us even more desperate. Some dogs sit paralyzed, others run aimlessly through the countryside and still others seek help in a risky way, like the dog Olivia.
A plea that no one hears
A tragic scene unfolds on a busy street in Miami, Florida: A dog, obviously ownerless, is running around between moving cars.
The four-legged friend is not paying attention to his own safety, but instead runs straight towards the cars, one after the other.
The drivers steer their cars past the dog and thus at least show consideration for her life. But nobody understands what the dog is trying to say, or simply doesn’t care.
The breakneck action is a desperate cry for help – the dog has apparently been abandoned and her only hope now is to get someone to pick her up and take her home again.
She cannot call for help with words, she can only risk her life to draw attention to herself. But her plea is not heard.
One person makes the difference
It is not known how long the dog has been wandering the streets, but she does not give up. And finally she comes across a car with a person with a big heart in it.
The person, whose identity is unknown, immediately stops when he sees the desperate dog – and the furry friend doesn’t need to be told twice to jump into the car.
She is finally safe. But unfortunately she’s not going home. Instead, the abandoned dog ends up at the Miami-Dade Animal Services shelter.
It is a large public shelter, and the smaller the chances are for the animals to be adopted.
Start to a beautiful future
Olivia, as the dog is now called, is lucky, however. Rosa Fond from the organization „Humans and Animals United“ sees a video of Olivia on the internet.
„It made me cry and I immediately spoke to our team to help Olivia,“
rosa recounts the moment she saw the video.
A short time later, Rosa’s efforts were successful: Olivia moved into a loving foster family. There she really blossoms, enjoys life and enchants everyone with her warmth.
She is still looking for a forever home, but for now she is visibly happy about how wonderfully her life has changed in just a few weeks – thanks to two people who couldn’t look past her suffering.
