Amanda Owens and her family are on vacation on the banks of a river in Australia.
The keen kayakers are enjoying a relaxing time in nature and beautiful paddling tours.
But they have no idea that they will need their kayak to save a life.
A helpless gray ball of fur
That day, the family notices something strange as they look across the river. A small gray lump can be seen in the reeds in the middle of the water.
Puzzled, Amanda and her family take a closer look and realize that the lump has arms, legs and a cute head.
It’s a koala bear!
Somehow the little guy must have gotten into this hopeless situation and is now clinging helplessly to the reeds.
Rescue of a clever koala
The family immediately realized that they had to help the animal.
Amanda’s husband grabs a kayak and paddles off. He approaches the koala carefully so as not to frighten it.
But the cute marsupial is far from being afraid of the man in the boat.
It seems to know that this floating something is its way back to shore.
The koala looks eagerly towards the kayak. Amanda’s husband brings the boat into position in front of the animal and the koala promptly grabs it.
This makes it much easier for the man to get the little fellow into the kayak. The koala bear willingly allows himself to be put in a safe place in the boat.
During the trip, the koala sits in front of his rescuer and looks attentively at the rest of the family, who are waiting on the shore and capturing the unique scene on camera.
You can clearly see relief and gratitude in his gaze.
Once on the shore, the koala gets out and immediately climbs up a tree.
Great admiration and a serious appeal
Amanda and her family are happy that they were able to rescue the little guy and that he is doing well. They shared the video and story of the rescue on Facebook.
Impressed by the koala’s reaction, Care4esk writes there:
„This happy little koala allowed human intervention and not only trusted this remarkable person, but almost seemed to enjoy [kayaking] his way to safety.“
The family is using their special experience to raise awareness of how worthy wildlife is of protection.
„These little guys are now endangered. It’s totally devastating to imagine the world without them,“
