In the Californian city of Bakersfield, a volunteer from R.A.D. Rescue discovered a dog looking for food in garbage cans.
Unfortunately, this is not an unusual sight, as many street dogs have to feed themselves in this way.
The dog had an unusually round face, which the helper found cute at first, until she realized that something was wrong.
The reason for the round face is sad
The head of the cute pit bull, who was later named „Chunk the Hunk“, was very swollen due to a tight chain around his neck.
When the helper noticed this, she knew she absolutely had to help the poor four-legged friend.
„His head was incredibly swollen because he had a tight chain around his neck.“
was her first thought, as The Dodo reports.
She lured him into her car with chicken and drove him straight to the vet.
Despite the pain, Chunk remained in good spirits and seemed happy to finally receive the care and attention he had previously been denied.
During the journey, Chunk sat quietly in the back seat with his swollen head, smiling at his rescuer and hoping that his suffering would soon come to an end.
Everything takes a turn for the better at the vet
Fortunately, the swelling was treated and after some time Chunk’s head returned to a healthy size.
It was obvious that he had spent most of his life in chains.
Therefore, his rescuers organized the necessary training to help Chunk become a normal dog again.
His personality soon showed as he learned new things and got fit – even if he didn’t always feel like it.
Happy ending for a lovable dog
In no time at all, Chunk turned into an incredibly loving and well-behaved dog who enjoyed being with other dogs and living his life to the full.
It wasn’t long before his future family found him and adopted him.
Now Chunk can learn in his new home that he never has to be on a chain again.
His story shows how important it is to take a close look and how much love and joy there can be in a little dog.
