It’s winter in St. Louis, Missouri. The temperatures are freezing and people prefer to stay in their warm houses and apartments.
An older mixed-breed dog doesn’t have that option. He seeks shelter from the cold by curling up on a doormat outside a front door.
Fortunately, he is seen. Staff from the animal welfare organization Stray Rescue set off immediately. They have no idea what treasure they are saving.
Not good prospects
The dog does not resist when the rescuers put a leash around its neck and gently lead it away from the porch.
At the shelter, they realize that Gasper, as they call the dog, is about eight years old and not in good health.
He has numerous tumors all over his body. It is difficult to say how long he will be able to live.
Life can be so beautiful
But Gasper is enjoying his new life in safety to the full. He loves to be massaged. Then he closes his eyes and gives himself over to being stroked.
Slowly the extremely lovable dog recovers and when he can play with his rescuers, some of his youthful vigor comes through.
Then he’s all puppy again, romping around and just enjoying what he’s doing.
Where are the right people for Gasper?
Gasper has definitely had enough of life as a stray on the street.
„But despite everything, he’s just happy to be alive“
his rescuers post on their social media page.
What he still needs is a forever home. Due to his state of health, the animal rights activists would also place him in a foster home or a place of mercy.
Until they have found the right people, they will continue to look after the faithful Gasper, who has so much love to give.
