We quickly lose our hearts to cute puppies, but „ugly“ animals often have a hard time. This is also how Bjarni’s story begins.
Had it not been for some helping people who came into his life, his deformity could easily have ended in death.
Abandoned to die
When animal control in Huntsville, Texas, picks up the deformed mongrel, the dog’s future doesn’t exactly look bright, writes theanimalclub.net.
Abandoned by his human family, the dog ends up on the street. Half of his nose and part of his lips are missing. He also has bite wounds and crooked teeth.
Basic functions such as breathing and eating are also restricted due to his deformity. The finders follow Bjarni’s trail and come across his former owners – but they no longer want anything to do with him.
„They didn’t want him back and thought it was okay to just let him die,“
reports the „St. Francis Angels“ organization on Facebook.
This heartless cruelty almost cost Bjarni his life.
A real guardian angel for Bjarni
But as fate would have it, an angel soon appeared on the scene. Anne Graber, founder of the „St. Francis Angels“ group in Texas, got wind of Bjarni’s heartbreaking story and took him in.
She is determined to give the animal the care and love it needs to find a new, loving home.
To her delight, Bjarni’s disfigured appearance has had no effect on his playful character:
„He is completely unaware of his limitation and disfigurement and loves anything that moves,“
she tells the Huffington Post.
Anne is also to thank for a successful fundraising campaign that raised more than 5,000 dollars for Bjarni’s operation.
Aside from making the dog „cute“ and „adoptable“ again, the surgery significantly improves Bjarni’s health. He can now breathe and eat again without any problems.
Anne’s efforts to find her protégé a new family are crowned with success after just a few months.
„Bjarni’s mom and dad were blown away when they saw him for the first time“,
the „St. Francis Angels“ rejoice on Facebook.
For Anne, Bjarni’s case is a story with a big message:
„I truly believe with every fiber of my heart that animals are meant to teach us humanity and compassion. It gives us something to strive for.“
