Choosing to adopt a pet is often a conscious decision backed by love and compassion.
While many people look for young and familiar breeds at shelters, there are some who open their hearts to older dogs or those with special needs.
Josh, a man with a big heart, is one such person who wanted to give a new life to a dog in need.
A courageous decision
The first encounter between Josh and the pregnant pit bull dog was just too cute.
Without hesitation, he took her home and named her Kaia.
Although she had never lived in a house before, she immediately seemed to feel at home and trusted Josh completely.
He was determined to look after her every need and offer her loving care.
The challenges of adopting a pregnant dog were not to be underestimated.
Josh provided a safe environment for Kaia, bought her a comfortable litter pan and spent a lot of time cuddling with her and making sure she was comfortable.
As the due date approached, Kaia became more restless and indicated that she was ready to give birth to her puppies.
The miracle of life
The birth was an exciting but also exhausting time for Kaia and Josh. She gave birth to a total of six healthy puppies, although one puppy did not survive the birth.
Josh was by Kaia’s side, bringing her food and water and helping her look after the puppies.
It was obvious that Kaia was an experienced mom and instinctively knew how to take care of her cubs.
Over time, the puppies became more mobile and began to conquer the house. They grew quickly and developed their own personalities.
From birth to farewell: an emotional journey with Kaia and her puppies
Kaia and her puppies loved playing in the garden and simply enjoying life.
But a few weeks later, the time came to say goodbye.
Although it was hard to say goodbye to the puppies, Josh knew it was the best thing for them.
One by one they moved to their new families and only Kaia remained with Josh.
He was grateful for the wonderful time he had with Kaia and her puppies and proud that he had adopted a dog with special needs.
