How big does a dog actually have to get before it can no longer pass as a „puppy“?
Many of us never stop thinking of all four-legged friends as dwarves, even as adult dogs, and continue to describe and treat them as such.
That would also be fine if it were a Chihuahua, a Miniature Spitz or a Yorkie. Because these furry friends always fit on your lap.
Lapdogs? Not quite ..
The Great Dane, the St. Bernard and the Labrador, for example, are less lap dog and more Shetland pony.
But what if these dogs have dwarf pony status compared to the following animal? Say, compared to a wolf?
Andrey Musienko holds one, which he presents to the world on his YouTube channel Black Canadian Wolf and on Instagram under blackcanadianwolf.
The eponymous black Canadian wolf lives mainly in Canada, northern Europe and Siberia, where it is considered an extremely dangerous predator and is on the move.
It is therefore difficult to imagine that a person would voluntarily live with it and treat it like their lapdog.
Because most of us would probably run away in a flash if we saw a wolf like this.
Akela the Direwolf
Perhaps Andrei has been watching a little too much Game of Thrones and decided to live like the Stark family.
Akela, his wolf, at least suggests this. In fact, the furry friend seems to be quite cuddly and peaceful.
The two have lived together since Akela was a cute puppy. Nobody could have guessed that the cuddly ball of fur would one day become a real monster.
When wolves want to play
Like all dogs, Akela also likes to play. But it’s more like a wrestling match between a man and a wolf.
But Andrei is used to it and it doesn’t bother him. Because Akela will always be his little wolf puppy.
Wild wolf as cuddly bear
In general, it is not advisable to domesticate a wolf, because the original genes simply never disappear completely.
But that hasn’t stopped Andrei from raising and educating Akela. He has now also set up a foundation for him.
His donation page states that he wants to raise money to provide Akela with a more species-appropriate environment and enclosure.
We are keeping our fingers crossed for Andrei and Akela that this dream will come true.
