Surachet Klaewkla is on his way to work in his home town of Trang, Thailand, when he suddenly hears heart-rending cries.
He can’t explain who is crying so desperately and where the bloodcurdling cries for help are coming from, but he knows that someone must be in terrible distress.
Crying from the well
Surachet gets to the bottom of the matter. He listens intently and realises that the terrible cries are coming from a building site.
There is no sign of anyone there, so Surachet goes to the site on his own and looks around.
Now he hears exactly where the miserable crying is coming from: from a well in the middle of the building site.
Surachet goes to the well, which is walled into the ground and covered with a grating, and looks inside.
There is no water in the well, but a large amount of mud and five muddy lumps in the middle.
At first Surachet thinks they are stones, but the stones cry and try to move.
Now Surachet realises what has happened: five small animals have fallen into the well and are stuck in the mud.
Brave rescue
The young man doesn’t hesitate for a second. He removes the grating from the well and climbs into the mud.
He then carefully lifts up one of the crying lumps after the other and places all five of them on the ground before climbing out himself, now also covered in mud.
The small animals are completely covered in thick mud, so that at first glance it is impossible to tell what species they are.
But when Surachet takes a closer look, he realises: five tiny little puppies are hiding under the mud!
Fluffy happy ending
Surachet was actually on his way to work, but now he has more important things to do.
Not content with rescuing the puppies from the well, he also wants to free them from their mud suit.
And he can only do that at home. So he takes the five muddy babies in his arms and brings them into his garden.
His family is amazed when Surachet arrives with the terribly messed up puppies.
The puppies no longer cry so much because they realise that they are being helped.
Now even the whole family is helping. They join forces to wash the puppies until all the mud is gone.
The transformation is hard to believe. They were just five lumps of mud, now they are the fluffiest puppies Surachet and his family can imagine.
And it gets even better for the little street puppies: while the rescuer and his family nurse them up, they fall so madly in love with the fur babies that they can no longer part with them.
