Dave Fleishman sets up a camera under his porch and discovers that a bear has made itself at home there.
The surprise is obvious and Fleishman is lucky that he set up the camera at all. Someone in particular had made him do it.
It all started with Dave Fleishman’s dogs, who one day began sniffing under his porch. The wildlife photographer, who lives in South Lake Tahoe, California, was completely baffled.
The dogs were the only ones who ever went under the porch. So why were they suddenly acting like there was a new smell there?
To find out what was going on, Fleishman installed a hidden camera there. And when he looked at the recordings, he could hardly believe his eyes.
Allow me? My name is Bear!

Because a bear had made itself at home under his porch. This was by no means the first time Fleishman had seen a bear in his neighborhood.
The area where he lives is known as the „bear highway“. And that means that bears are actually everywhere.
Fleishman explains:
„They kind of wander around here all day long. So if you don’t see a bear in Lake Tahoe in the summer, you’re not going looking for them.“
The bear brings his friends
But the bear wasn ‚t the only visitor Fleishman spotted on the video recordings. A bobcat also popped in from time to time.
„I’m used to bears, but bobcats? They’re pretty rare here. I’ve never seen one with my own eyes. That was really fantastic!“
fleishman continues.

According to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, bobcats are crepuscular animals. This means that they are especially active just before sunrise and just after sunset.
This in turn makes it difficult to see them at a „normal“ time of day.
Fleishman, who earns his living by getting wild animals in front of his lens, was naturally thrilled to have filmed such a great animal.
However, he would still like to see larger wild animals a little further away from his house next time.
