Parents know this irrepressible need to always want to protect their children.
It’s no different with animals; their safety and well-being often take second place to that of their offspring.
This is also shown by the touching story of mum cat Scarlett.
A heroic mum cat
The courageous cat Scarlett finds herself in a disastrous situation when a garage burns down where she has given birth to her kittens.
When the fire brigade arrives on the scene, fireman David Giannelli notices a cat carrying her kittens out of the burning building one by one.
She returns five times to bring her babies to safety. She touches each kitten on their little noses to see if they are still alive.
What a brave mum cat, but such a situation can quickly become a deadly trap.
Scarlett collapses after the rescue
She suffers severe burns during the rescue operation. Her eyes and ears are covered in blisters, her paws and ears are burnt and her fur is singed. The poor animal must be in incredible pain!
The fire brigade was able to extinguish the fire and provide Starlett and her babies with medical care. Unfortunately, one of the kittens didn’t make it.
But the others are treated, recovered and find a new home.
Scarlett goes down in history as a heroine
Her story attracts the attention of the media worldwide. So many people are touched and at the same time amazed at what this cat has achieved.
Several books are even written about her. „Scarlett Saves her Family“ and „The Bravest Cat“ are just two examples.
On top of that, the North Shore Animal League, which treats Scarlett and her kittens, names an award after her, which from then on honours other heroic animals.
For Scarlett herself, everything ends well: the brave cat survives the severe burns and is adopted by a loving family from Brooklyn.
She lives there for another 12 happy years with lots of love and affection. Her incredible deed will always be remembered, even after her death!
