Like all other dogs, good-natured Snoopy longs for a loving forever home where he can spend the rest of his life in peace and quiet.
But the stars don’t seem to be aligned very favourably. The fostering staff are at a loss as to why nobody wants to adopt sweet Snoopy.
Despite his advanced age and illness, the four-legged friend is an extremely loyal soul and a real treasure!
Left on the left
Snoopy is one of many at theBenton-Franklin Humane Society (BFHS) shelter. Unfortunately, he falls by the wayside while other animals around him soon find new homes.
The staff immediately fall in love with the special dog, who has special needs due to his illness.
Snoopy suffers from Cushing’s disease. A volunteer at the animal shelter, Julie Saraceno, writes on Instagram:
„[The disease] results in hearing and vision problems for him. He’s also an older dog. That’s why he’s being left out.“
A note that changes everything
However, Snoopy has long since won the hearts of all employees. All that remains is for a potential adoptive family to succumb to his charms.
After 600 days, however, there is still no end in sight to his time at the shelter. Saraceno and the other volunteers are heartbroken.
„Even though Snoopy has been here for over 600 days, he still finds a way to smile at the simple things in life,“
reads another Instagram post.
Then Snoopy receives a letter from eleven-year-old Emmy, which brings light to the end of the tunnel:
„Dear Snoopy, I wish you the best of luck in finding a home soon. I see you on Instagram and every post makes me so sad because you deserve a loving home. You are so lucky to be in such a great shelter. Remember that disability doesn’t mean wanting to get rid of someone. When I look at your face, I see a kind soul. Again, I wish you the best for the rest of your life. I wish I could adopt you myself, but I’m only an 11-year-old. You are such a beautiful boy and I hope you like the stuffed animals and treats. Hugs, Emmy.“
The note has an effect: the shelter receives a message from „Forgotten Dogs Rescue“, who are able to organise a foster home for Snoopy.
At last, Snoopy can take another step towards being adopted forever.
