Apollo, the one-eyed cat from the animal shelter in Michigan, also had to make this experience.
A reversal of fortune
Most people look for particularly cute animals in animal shelters.
Unfortunately, in this day and age, appearance counts more and more, and it often plays a role in how well photos can be taken for Instagram and the like.
Apollo is an adorable cat, but unfortunately he is missing an eye, which puts many people off.
The cat was originally rescued by Michigan Cat Rescue, an animal rescue organization.
The president, Nancy Hutchinson, saved him from being euthanized.
After some time at the shelter, disaster struck: Apollo fell ill with a severe upper respiratory infection.
A short time later, one of his eyes ruptures inside his head and Apollo can only be saved by emergency surgery.
Since that fateful day, he has been missing an eye.
And since then he has been eagerly waiting for a home where he will be accepted for who he is and receive the love he deserves.
But the road there is rocky.
Another twist of fate
At an adoption event, Nancy Hutchinson overhears a woman calling him ugly.
„I really think he understood her, because he put his head down. I could tell he felt bad, and that made me cry,“
says Nancy.
Nancy is doing everything she can to ensure that Apollo finally gets the life he deserves.
She posts his fate on social media and tries to find a family for him.
Someone does indeed get in touch. A woman called Denise wants to take in the adorable cat.
It sounds almost too good to be true, but in fact the happy ending is perfect: Apollo now lives with Denise and is loved by her just as he is.
