It is hard to imagine how cruel people can be to animals. This example shows how inventively animals are killed. Fortunately, however, it also shows that rescue can sometimes come at the last second.
Passers-by do the right thing
Local residents simply went for a walk along the Neckar in Obrigheim (Baden-Württemberg) and made an unimaginable discovery.
A dog was swimming in the Neckar that didn’t seem to be moving, it looked completely exhausted and passers-by could see that it was in its death throes.
Horrified, they alerted the police at around eleven o’clock. The officers arrived shortly afterwards and one of them bravely jumped into the Neckar.
Cruel truth
When the officer arrived at the dog, he realised that it was tied up. Weights had also been put on the poor animal.
Stunned, the police officer supported the exhausted dog until the fire brigade arrived. They freed the animal from the water.
The dog, which was a brown German shorthair, was immediately taken to the nearest veterinary clinic.
There it was found to be severely hypothermic and extremely exhausted. The poor animal was helped with warmth, infusions and loving care.
Fortunately, the dog survived and was soon on the road to recovery. It was not possible to find out who had inflicted this appalling cruelty on the dog.
