Kerry the dog didn’t have an easy life , as she had to fend for herself on the streets.
One day, she was found under a car by animal rescuers – she was heavily pregnant at the time!
The rescuers brought her to the shelter where her puppies were eventually born.
Safe and sound
A short time later, Kerry was taken in by the animal welfare organization Hearts & Bones Rescue.
They made it their mission to look after the dog and her puppies and give them the love they needed.
„Kerry and her puppies settled in immediately,“
reports Katherine Hieber from Hearts & Bones Rescue.
The staff immediately noticed what a strong mom Kerry was – she seemed immensely happy to finally be living in a safe place where she could raise her puppies in peace.
„She makes it clear how much she loves being around you.“
Having probably spent her whole life growing up alone on the streets, Kerry’s joy at being surrounded by people who gave her love was palpable.
She is the best mom her puppies could wish for – because she knows exactly what she has to do to make sure the little ones are doing well.
But she really appreciates the fact that she is no longer solely responsible for the puppies:
From now on, all the staff will help her care for her babies.
She loves it when someone holds her paw while she nurses!
The dog trusts her humans
Kerry loves to be close to everyone around her – she is very affectionate and shows her love not only by giving paws, but also by giving regular kisses.
She trusts the staff blindly, which is why her protective instinct towards her puppies is not extremely pronounced.
People are allowed to touch her offspring so that they can be weighed and any health problems can be identified in good time.
Kerry obviously knows instinctively that all these people are there to help her and her puppies.
She is overjoyed
The puppies simply mean everything to the dog – there could be no greater happiness for her than to come to this safe place!
Here she can relax and raise her babies in peace.
„It’s clear that she really loves her puppies and just wants to be near them,“
says Katherine Hieber.
Kerry shows this very clearly when she is taken outside to do her business – afterwards she immediately wants to go back inside to be with her puppies!
That’s real motherly love!
New foster family
In the meantime, Kerry and her puppies are on their way to the next foster home in New York City.
There, the new foster parents are already looking forward to holding Kerry’s paw and helping to raise her babies.
However, we hope that sweet Kerry and her offspring will soon find a forever home!
