A small family had huddled together in a tree to get through a violent storm safely.
In the process, their home was razed to the ground. The tree in which they had lived broke in half.
It was therefore to be sawn into small pieces after the storm.
Voices from the branch

Fortunately, one of the workers heard sounds coming from one of the pieces of wood. Curious as he was, he brought the entire piece to the New England Wildlife Center.
Here, the branch was carefully pushed into an X-ray machine – and the man was right, there were baby animals hidden in the wood.
A stroke of luck

Miraculously, the little owl babies were unharmed. Shoving a branch into an X-ray machine may be unusual, but it saved lives.
„X-raying a branch is definitely something I have yet to do in my life.“

said Zak Mertz, executive director of the New England Wildlife Center to The Dodo.

NEWC staff rescued the little owls and took them to the nearest animal hospital. Here they spent a few days under the supervision of the vets.
Looking for new families for little owls
The rescuers knew that they had to find adoptive parents for the baby owls as quickly as possible so that the little ones could grow up healthy and happy.
Especially in the first two months of their lives, the little ones need a mother who will look after them and only let them out of the nest when they have fledged.
Thanks to the woodcutter’s presence of mind and curiosity, the little owl family had another stroke of luck.
We are sure that the little ones are now leading happy and carefree owl lives.
