Employees of the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust in Nairobi (Kenya) receive a call one day. Two animals are trapped in a pit on a nearby farm.
They immediately rush to the scene. There they see an almost unbelievable scene.
Two sisters in dire straits

In the pit, they discovered two large sisters who could no longer move. The Sheldrick Wildlife Trust staff were almost heartbroken.
The sisters are two little lionesses. They are just six months old.
They overlooked the pit during a walk – and fell into it. When the rescuers arrived, they had been waiting for help for more than a day.
„Both girls were weak and frightened. As they huddled together in the pit, their rescuers devised a plan,“
said the Wildlife Trust in a Facebook post.

The plan is put into action

To rescue the two lionesses, they are first sedated. Then the rescuers climb a ladder into the pit.
The lionesses are soon lifted out of the pit on stretchers. They are examined by vets on the spot.
Fortunately, they are not injured. They can be released back into the wild immediately.
A small miracle is still missing

The rescuers are still waiting for a small miracle:
„All we needed now was a happy reunion with their mom“,
the Facebook post continues.
The rescuers watch the lion cubs with a hidden camera. After twelve hours, they finally see what they have been waiting for so long.
The lion herd returns to the little lionesses.
„We can only imagine the joy and relief of the mother lion. The lion cubs would have been very vulnerable without her.
It is likely that they would not have survived in the wild without their mother and the herd,“
the Wildlife Trust continues.
For everyone involved in the rescue, the reunion of the little lionesses with her herd and mom was a very happy event.
