On the coast of Northumberland in northeast England, large gray rocks form a barrier against the sea.
It was here that a small seal got stuck in a gap between heavy rocks and needed urgent help.
The rescuers from British Divers Marine Life Rescue rushed to the scene, but quickly realized that it would be difficult to free the animal.
The large, heavy rocks were almost impossible to move.
A creative rescue operation is needed
The rescuers had to come up with something to save the seal.
A representative from British Divers Marine Life Rescue told The Dodo:
„It was obvious that we had to do something different because of the restricted access to him.“
Instead of moving the rocks, they pulled the seal backwards out of a small gap in the middle of the rocks.
They immediately placed a towel over the frightened seal’s head to calm it down as much as possible.
The rescuers then carefully brought it to safety.
„As this was not a normal rescue, the paramedics had to explore all the options to save it.“
And further:
„Fortunately, with the help of adrenaline and a little compliance from the seal, the paramedics managed to free the pup and bring it to the promenade,“
emphasized the British Divers Marine Life Rescue in a Facebook post.
Freedom is calling
After the rescue, the little seal was thoroughly examined.
It turned out that she was in good condition despite some minor injuries.
The rescuers reported that the animal was frightened and tired, which was not surprising given the traumatic experience.
The seal was taken to the Hessilhead Wildlife Rescue Center for a full recovery, where it will be allowed to recuperate and then released back into the wild.
