For almost a decade, a dog named Rockland lived in the hallways of an apartment building – he had no real home and no family.
He didn’t belong to anyone in the building, but he depended on the people there to feed him every day.
However, he lacked the love and affection of a real family – he was completely left to his own devices.
He came to the shelter

At some point, the residents of the house could no longer manage to look after Rockland and asked the animal rescue organization Animal Haven for help.
There, the four-legged friend was finally safe! But it seemed that even here he would not find a family to give him a loving home.
The staff at Animal Haven were very worried about the four-legged friend – they believed that his chances of being adopted were very slim.
This was mainly due to the fact that Rockland was suffering from cancer and had very little time left to live.
One video changed everything
Sarah, an employee at the animal shelter, was determined to do everything she could to ensure that the four-legged friend would soon be adopted by a loving family.
He simply deserved to spend his last years in a great home.
„My first thought was: ‚He can’t die in a shelter. He can’t die without ever experiencing the love and comfort of a family of his own,“
sarah reports.
That’s why she posted a video of the cute dog on social media – with complete success!
Many applications were received

After just a short time, many people got in touch to get to know Rockland – they were touched by his story and wanted to give him a few last wonderful years.
In the end, the four-legged friend found a home with his new mom Bessy Gatto, who was just perfect for him!
„She has such a big heart and has rescued many dogs with special needs,“
sarah tells us later.
That’s why the animal shelter employee was sure that Bessy was just the right one this time too !
Rockland is now living a wonderful dog’s life in his new, loving home – and he’s not alone! The four-legged friend is surrounded by lots of other dogs of the same species with whom he can play.
What a stroke of luck for the dog! From now on, he will never have to be afraid of being alone again – and can enjoy his last years to the full.
