Maxine, a German shepherd mix, has been living at the San Bernardino City Animal Shelter for quite some time now.
Although this situation is not easy for any dog, she warms the hearts of the staff. The dog also gives a lot of love to the people who visit her.
Time and again, she sticks her paws through the bars of her kennel to touch the visitors. The reason behind this breaks all hearts.
Searching for attention
Maxine was handed in to the animal shelter with a heavy heart by her owners. They already had another dog and Maxine didn’t really get on with him.
Although the friendly, bright dog is one of the favourites at the shelter, she has found it difficult to find a new home.
Recently, however, she has discovered that she can stretch her paws under the bars of her cage. She practically reaches out her hand to visitors.
If someone responds, she places her paw trustingly in the hand of the interested party and almost curls up into a ball so that they can stroke her through the bars.
Adoption at no cost
Since the animal shelter in San Bernardino has reached its maximum capacity, they have started a campaign that allows adoptions at no cost.
The shelter also includes a medical check and necessary vaccinations before adoption. Help is also provided to help the dog and owner settle into their new home.
The staff, who have taken Maxine and her lovable and attention-seeking nature to their hearts, hope to find an interested couple to take her in.
When she meets someone who shows interest in her, she starts to wag her tail intensely, sticks her paws through the bars and begs for affection.
