A woman discovered an emaciated and badly injured stray dog on the street and didn’t know what to do.
No one was able to get close to the dog and as soon as someone approached it, it ran away.
The woman didn’t know how to help the dog, but she knew she would!
Dog scared to death baffles people
The woman took a photo of the dog and made an emergency call via Mission Paws’ible.
The poor dog appeared to be in agony as he fled – almost as if he was running from a lion, according to a report from iheartdogs.com.
Prue, who works for Mission Paws’ible, immediately came to the rescue and tried to help the terrified dog.
She knew she could only catch him if she sedated him first. And she could only do this by mixing the anaesthetic into the dog’s food.
She then placed it in a place where the dog would feel safe enough to eat.
The ruse worked
The stray was found a few hours later in the garage, eating from the bowl.
When it was safe to approach him, Prue put a lead on him and took him to her car.
The dog was still conscious but very calm and sociable.
A terrible experience as a reason for behavior
At the rescue center, it was immediately obvious that the dog had experienced something terrible.
He was scared to death of all humans and was desperately looking for a safe place to hide.
But his keepers and rescuers didn’t give up! Prue stayed at the vet clinic for three weeks to care for the dog and gain his trust.
A long-term mission
It was to take several years before Prue succeeded in gaining the trust of Belle, as she called the dog.
She fed her by hand and remained a constant and gentle part of her life. Nevertheless, Prue was unable to become Belle’s caregiver.
Foster mother achieves the impossible
It was only after further attempts, unsuccessful attempts and countless tears that Belle’s foster mother succeeded in gaining her trust.
After about three months, during which foster mom Kaho left her alone as much as possible so as not to stress her even more, Belle came to her bed for the first time to cuddle.
The rest is history – and Belle is now a happy and beloved dog.
