Baja California is the northernmost state in Mexico. Here, two friends are travelling in a sparsely populated area.
By chance, they discover a freshly dug hole in the ground. When they look inside, the two friends can hardly believe what they see.
Nine abandoned children
Nine little puppies are cowering down there. They are perhaps a week old and cuddle up to each other. Obviously, the little ones are scared. The reason is clear.
There is no sign of their mum for miles around. How are the two friends supposed to find out if mum is anywhere nearby?
One of them suddenly has a brilliant idea.
Mum comes racing up
He searches for the sounds of squeaking puppies on his mobile phone and plays the sound over the car’s stereo. The result is not long in coming.
A short time later, the mum rushes in, followed by two more dogs. At first she succumbs to a sweet misunderstanding.
She thinks her puppies are trapped in the loudspeaker attached to the inside of the passenger door.
Of course, this is not the case and soon the misunderstanding is cleared up. The mum dog and her puppies are reunited and the joy is immense.
Off to the USA
The dogs are apparently strays without a permanent home. The two friends don’t want to simply leave them behind.
With the help of the animal welfare organisation Animal Pad, they organise their relocation to the USA, where they are initially placed in an animal shelter.
When the friends enquire about the dogs a few weeks later, they realise that they are all doing well. But it gets even better.
They all find a home
One year after their discovery in the hole in the ground, all the puppies, who are no longer puppies, have found loving homes.
There is Boba, for example, who always makes his owner laugh with his funny character.
The dog mum is now also part of a family and lives a great life under her new name Anne.
