It had been two years since Sheldon Holland had last seen his then animal friend – the explosives dog Django.
Sheldon himself was an explosives detection dog handler for the U.S. American K9 Detection Services.
in 2011, Sheldon was deployed to Afghanistan – the place where the deep friendship between Sheldon and Django began.
The two spent a total of 18 months together until they were separated again.
A long period of separation lay ahead
After his deployment in Afghanistan, Sheldon returned home to his native Pietermaritzburg in South Africa.
Unfortunately, he was unable to take his animal buddy Django with him at the time.
But when he said goodbye, he promised the dog that he would definitely return and take him with him.
The lengthy process took a total of two years – but Sheldon never gave up hope, because he really wanted to have his Django with him!
Then finally came the long-awaited moment..

After more than two years of painful separation, the time had come and Sheldon was finally allowed to see Django again!
He was extremely excited and nervous after all this time.
Django arrived at O.R. Tambo International Airport and was then quarantined at Kempton Park.
Sheldon didn’t hesitate another second and set off to pick up Django.
Heartbreaking reunion

Django was locked in a kennel in this large facility – a large gate separated him from Sheldon.
When Sheldon approached the gate, he stood so that Django could see his face.
Now the guards opened the gate – and Django began to wag his tail excitedly and pull on the lead!
He could hardly wait to get back to his master.
Then the time had come – Django was released and ran straight towards his owner.
„I told you I was coming to get you.“

The two hugged each other tightly and Sheldon gave his dog one kiss after another – the joy of reunion was simply enormous!
After posing briefly for a photo, the two of them went for a walk. Django and his owner had missed this for so long.
Sheldon was overjoyed to finally bring his Django home, because that was where he really belonged.
Reunited

Now they could finally really enjoy their life together – especially for Django, it was the best life he could have wished for.
Django especially loved the beach, so they often went on trips there.
But the people in the area also fell in love with Django and kept giving him treats, which is why the dog put on some weight and has now reached a healthy weight.
What incredible luck for Django to now have such a great home where he is loved unconditionally.
The bond between dog and human

Two years of separation was a very long time – but this story is the best proof of how strong the bond between humans and dogs is.
No matter how long a dog is separated from its favorite human, it will never forget him.
It’s not for nothing that dogs are called man’s best friend. Because our furry friends sense our feelings and notice when we are not feeling well.
They then do everything they can to make us feel better again.
Nothing can sever this special bond between humans and dogs – even after many years of separation, dogs recognize their old owners as if it were yesterday.
Just like Sheldon and Django – an inseparable pair who simply belong together!
