It’s an ordinary morning when Rebecca Van Schepen arrives at work at the Kentucky Humane Society (KHS). But on this day, she is confronted with an unexpected situation.
Outside the door of the shelter, she notices someone curled up on an empty Amazon delivery bag.
At first she is confused, but the closer she gets, the more clearly she recognizes a sweet and desperate face – a furry creature obviously looking for help.
The rescue of Cowboy
The little dog, who is later named Cowboy, is curled up on the Amazon bag.
When he tries to get up, Rebecca realizes his leg is badly injured.
The surveillance camera shows that someone left him there at 7:30 p.m. the night before.
Rebecca got to work at 7 a.m., which means the poor four-legged friend had been waiting over 11 hours for someone to find him.
Despite these difficult circumstances, he shows hope in his eyes and happily snuggles into Rebecca’s lap when she arrives.
The need for amputation
Although Cowboy is in a lot of pain, that doesn’t stop him from showing his gratitude to the people at the shelter for finally keeping him safe.
Unfortunately, his leg is too badly injured to be saved. The vets at the shelter therefore decide to perform an emergency amputation.
They are worried about how Cowboy will react to the loss of his leg, but he proves to be amazingly resilient.
Cowboy’s amazing recovery and adoption
After the amputation, the furry friend is recovering well. Cowboy enjoys the love and attention he receives from the shelter staff.
Everyone is impressed with how quickly he recovers from his traumatic experience. Cowboy is a loving and playful dog.
Eventually, Cowboy finds his forever home where he is loved and cherished by his new family.
His story is an inspiring example of how compassion and caring can change an animal’s life, even after the worst of circumstances.
Cowboy has met his happy ending and now brings joy to the lives of his new family.
