You can always discover new things on walks and possibly even save a life. That’s what happened to a woman who was walking past an overgrown garden.
The garden was completely neglected and littered with bulky garbage, including sofas and mattresses.
She could recognize a dog on one of the mattresses. She picked up the phone and called Donna Lochmann and her team from Stray Rescue of St. Louis for help.

Interesting hiding places in the garden
Donna answered the woman’s call personally and immediately drove to the address. She saw at a glance that there were several dogs, actually still puppies, in the garden.
She could also see that the mother dog was also in the garden and decided to catch the adult dog first instead of the puppies.
She wasn’t sure how the mother dog would react if she started to collect the puppies.
donna called the mother dog „Donutfest“ and with the help of canned wieners, she lured her close enough to get her into her van.

Rescue operation or hide-and-seek?
As it turned out, luring the hungry mother dog was the easiest part of the rescue operation. Because the puppies didn’t seem to want to be caught.
One of the puppies hid near a fence and started howling when Donna was finally able to collect him.

She still wonders to this day why no one from the neighborhood came to see where the dog cries were coming from.
Two other puppies retreated further and further into the overgrown part of the overgrown garden, so that Donna feared losing sight of them.

She decided to tempt these two four-legged friends with the help of food and opened a tin of puppy food.
Hunger seemed to have won out, because after a short time they emerged from the undergrowth and Donna was able to collect them too.
The last puppy had made himself comfortable on a mattress and was more or less waiting to be taken away.
Put up for adoption

Donna took the mother dog Donutfest and her four puppies straight to the vet to arrange the necessary examinations and vaccinations.
None of the dogs were really ill or had come to any harm. In the meantime, the four adorable puppies have also been reunited with their families, who contacted them immediately.

Donutfest was still looking for a family at the time. We hope that she has found a loving home in the meantime!
