Puppy Ruby already has an eventful history behind her. She has been adopted from the animal shelter five times – and returned five times.
She is considered unadoptable and the Australian Shepherd mix is already being considered for euthanasia.
But Pat, a volunteer at the animal shelter, has an idea to save Ruby’s life.
She has no idea what impact this decision will have on her own life.
Bright puppy as a rescue dog

Desperate, Pat turns to the Rhode Island police canine unit in the hope that they will train Ruby as a police dog.
This could be Ruby’s chance of survival and give her the opportunity to put her energy to good use.

Luckily, Officer Dan O’Neil has long dreamed of joining the canine squad. Until now, he’s just been missing a canine partner.

At this point, no one suspects what events this contact will lead to.
A fateful twist

For Ruby it’s a chance to prove herself, and for Dan it’s a chance to get his dream job.
They both try hard and succeed – together they make it onto the dog squadron.
Ruby’s talent shines through there and the cheeky puppy becomes a respected police dog. The two of them specialize in searching for missing persons.
One day, they work together to find a male teenager who was probably last seen walking in the woods.

Ruby picks up the scent and runs down a ravine. There, the rescuers actually find the boy lying face down.

He is injured and barely has a pulse, but thanks to the quick rescue, he goes straight to hospital and makes a full recovery.

Dan is able to give the boy’s mother the good news. When she sees that he is from the dog squadron, the unbelievable happens.
She asks about a puppy named Ruby that she rescued years ago.

Dan and Pat can hardly believe that they are now face to face.
The circle miraculously closes when the dog Pat rescued as a puppy rescues her son seven years later.
