Animals that end up at animal welfare organisations often have a past that nobody envies.
Injuries, violence, abuse or neglect are just some of the reasons why they end up there.
Because many people feel sorry for them and appreciate the work of the animal welfare organisations, they donate willingly. A woman from the USA shamelessly exploits this.
Highway is injured and comes to a medical care centre
The little terrier is hit by a car and seriously injured. He has several broken bones and his bladder is ruptured.

A normal foster home is unable to provide the intensive care that this golden young dog needs.
Guardians of Rescue is committed to Highway and places him in a medical foster home. He ends up at Dragon Paws and his ordeal begins.
The organisation makes a reputable impression
Dragon Paws appears to be a reputable organisation. However, the regular appeals for donations and the caring appearance that Sandra Ables puts on as the owner are deceptive.
This becomes apparent when Lea Moore from Guardians of Rescue inspects one of the scammer’s three foster homes with the support of the authorities.
What she sees there is not for the faint-hearted. Numerous dogs are standing in their own faeces in cages stacked on top of each other, infested with worms and left to fend for themselves.

All the dogs there urgently need to be treated by a vet – and Highway is one of them.
The little terrier goes through hell at Dragon Paws
When he arrives, the rupture in his bladder is treated, but nobody treats his broken leg.
Instead, the people behind Dragon Paws simply glue it to his body. As the nerves gradually die off, Highway sees only one way out.
To get rid of the dead weight on his body, he uses his teeth. He tries to bite off his paw.

When he is rescued from the miserable conditions of the foster home, there is no hope for his leg. It has to be amputated.
Fortunately, the bad times don’t break Dragon Paws Highway – he’s still a fun dog who loves to revel in attention.
