A dog named Watson was found all alone and suffering in a park in Italy by a student who brought him to the Speranza Animal Rescue shelter.
It was immediately obvious that the emaciated dog was not well at all.
He was covered in wounds and was later diagnosed with a number of serious illnesses. The vets knew that he didn’t have much time left to live…
But Janine Guido, an animal shelter employee, took care of the little heap of misery and tried to make his last hours of life as comfortable as possible.
A sad and at the same time hopeful story that shows how important and valuable the work of all animal rights activists is!

in 2018, a student appeared at the Speranza Animal Rescue shelter in Italy.
Janine Guido received a sick and visibly emaciated dog covered in scars and fresh wounds.
Janine immediately organized an appointment with the vet for Watson. In the emergency room, he was treated with antibiotic infusions and a cancerous tumor was found on his hind leg.
Janine increasingly got the feeling that Watson didn’t have long to live and that he might not even survive the next day.

So while Watson was being cared for by the vets and his condition stabilized as much as possible, Janine prepared a cosy camp.
She laid out several layers of blankets and pillows in a corner of her shelter to allow Watson to curl up and sleep in a soft bed.
Sensing that Watson didn’t have long to live, she decided without further ado to spend the night with him. She cuddled up to him and talked to him until he fell asleep.
Time to say goodbye

Janine couldn’t have reconciled herself to leaving the suffering Watson alone for even an hour.
No one knew exactly what kind of life he had. But he was to spend his last hours safe in the knowledge that there was someone who loved and cared for him.
Watson woke up the next morning next to Janine, but was in a weak and poor condition.
He was visibly in pain and cold. His body was weak and suddenly he collapsed.
Janine didn’t leave his side for a moment. In tears, she talked to him constantly and told him how much she loved him. Finally, Watson fell asleep peacefully, never to wake up again.
Janine told her story on Facebook, saying that although she was very sad, she was also grateful that she was able to make Watson feel like a loved one during his last hours!
