There are stories that arise out of a normal, everyday situation and yet remain in the memory forever.
One such story took place in the quaint town of Wilmington, North Carolina, where Sarah Hoyle and her young son had a shared experience to learn and laugh about.
Together they wanted to discover animals in nature, but Sarah quickly learned that it is not always easy to identify the right animal.
A walk in nature
The quiet streets of Wilmington served as a living classroom for Sarah and her son, and their afternoon walks became a treasure hunt in the amazing world of nature.
The everyday wonders they discovered became living lessons for their curious son.
„Our walks are the time when he can ask me anything he’s interested in about the world and I try to teach him as much as I can,“
revealed Sarah Hoyle the Dodo.
And then came that unforgettable day when a wild rabbit – a rarity in her area – suddenly crossed her path.
Thrilled by the unexpected guest, Sarah drew her son’s attention to the animal and pulled out her cell phone to take a photo of the fluffy newcomer.
But as she took more photos and zoomed in closer, she realized something was wrong.
A rabbit is not always a rabbit
„I took a few photos and zoomed in closer and closer until I finally saw that it wasn’t a rabbit at all,“
hoyle recalls.
What she had initially thought were rabbit ears turned out to be a squirrel’s tail.
When Sarah and her son realized that they had been fooled by a cleverly placed squirrel, they could no longer contain their amusement.
They stood together in the street and could hardly stop laughing. At that moment, Sarah knew she had to share this extraordinary event.

And so her humorous encounter was shared with the world in the Crap Wildlife Photography Facebook group.
In her post, Hoyle humorously wrote:
„I saw the cutest rabbit on our walk tonight! I was fooled!“
This unique experience will surely not only shape their future walks and make them more cautious when identifying wildlife, but will also be an unforgettable part of their shared memories.
Who knows what animal they will discover next – perhaps a rabbit that really is a rabbit and not a cleverly disguised squirrel!
